Abstract

772,209. Manually-actuated valves. DOMBRE, P. May 9, 1955 [May 12, 1954], No. 13416/55. Class 135. A mixing valve having two inlets 2a, 2b and at least one outlet 3a, comprises two valves 6, 7 each controlling an inlet and mobile in parallel directions, and a control member 19 having a surface co-operating with the valves for determining their positions, and being angularly mobile around a first axis 15 parallel to the direction of motion of the valves, and around a second axis 20 perpendicular to the first, and being constantly in co-operation with a stop 40 fixed in relation to the directions of movement of the valves. The valves are prevented from being opened by inlet pressure by their stems 22, 23 abutting the disc 19. On rotating the spindle 15 and depressing the handle 24a to remove a cam stop 29 from the path of axial movement of the stem 15, the disc 19 tilts about the point 45 as the pivot 20 moves along the axis of the stem 15 and inlet pressure opens the valves. The proportions of the two fluids to be mixed depends on the rotation of the stem 15 while the quantity of the mixed fluid is determined.by the depression of the handle 24a and therefore the axial movement of the stem 15. Depression of the handle in its position shown in the drawing will produce no opening of the valves since the disc 19 is held fixed at the point 45 and at the right hand side where it abuts the stem of the valve 7. Rotation of the stem 15 so that the handle is perpendicular to the plane of the drawing would enable both valves to be opened by equal amounts. In two alternative embodiments rotation of the stem 15 allows the mixture to go to either a bath or shower outlet controlled by two lift valves operated by a cam disc attached to the stem 15, or by a rotary conical valve slidably splined to the stem 15. In each of these cases the axes of the valves 6, 7 are displaced a greater distance from the axis of the stem 15 than the point 45 so that the valves 6, 7 cannot be opened until the stem 15 has been rotated through a predetermined amount.
