Abstract

771,823. Reciprocating electric motors. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Oct. 24, 1955 [Oct. 27, 1954], No. 30399/55. Class 35. [Also in Groups XVIII and XL (b)] In an electric timepiece the maintaining circuit for the oscillating control member, e.g. the balance 1, Fig. 1, includes a quantity of radioactive material 4 and a detector 5 which is sensitive to radio-active radiation. As the balance swings in the direction of the arrow the detector 5, e.g. a photo-transistor is activated and the capacitor 8 discharges through the magnet coil 6 which attracts the armature 7 and impulses the balance. The value of the capacitor 8 and the resistor 10 are adjusted so that no appreciable impulse is given to the balance as it swings in the return direction. If desired the maintaining circuit may include a switch, e.g. a flip-flop which passes only one in two control signals to the magnet coil so that the balance is impulsed in one direction only. An apertured screen may be provided to obstruct the radio-active radiation until the balance is in the correct position. The detector may be on the balance and the quantity of radio-active material may be housed in a lead protective envelope. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, the balance is impulsed in both directions of movement, two detectors 5<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>11</SP> being provided. The balance and its support and the detector or detectors may form an interchangeable unit.
