Abstract
1455717 Photo-electric measurement of radiation dosage INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 19 Dec 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 58732/73 Heading G1A A radiation meter which measures the dose or dose rate of an ionizing radiation is provided with a multi-position switch so that the sensitivity of the meter can be adjusted depending on the ionization energy of the radiation. The switch, which is in addition to any normal range changing switch, makes the use of conventional calibration curves of energy against output unnecessary. The switch can alter the detector output current, or if the detector produces pulses the switch may operate circuitry to remove some pulses; alternatively the switch may attenuate the current passed to the meter read-out device, or may control the detector amplifier. In one construction, Fig. 2, the switch has a knob 15 recessed into the meter, and the knob is easily removed by release of screw 17 when the meter is to be decontaminated. In Fig. 3, the switch shaft 13 has a slotted end which can be turned with a coin, and the switch contacts, form part of a printed circuit board. If desired, the readout can be on a dial as shown, or a digital display or a printer. The detector may be remote from the meter and be connected by a cable.
