Abstract
771,250. Package building motion. T. M. M. (RESEARCH), Ltd. July 19, 1955 [July 21, 1954], No. 21255/54. Class 120 (2). A package building motion for a textile spinning, doubling, twisting or similar machine comprises a primary operating cam, a primary lever actuated thereby, a secondary cam rotatably mounted on the primary lever, a secondary lever mounted in operative relalationship to said secondary cam so as to be oscillated by the throw thereof, and a connection between the secondary lever and a yam traversing member, the secondary lever being mounted on a pivot which is capable of being shifted in relation to the point at which the secondary cam impinges upon the secondary lever in such manner that the effective length of the secondary lever, and therefore the point of reversal of the traverse, may be varied. In the arrangement shown, 10 indicates the main heart shaped cam which rotates about an axis 11 and co-operates with a bowl 12 mounted upon the primary lever 13. Primary lever 13 also carries a secondary heart shaped cam 14 which co-operates with a bowl 15 mounted on the secondary lever 16 which is pivoted on the same stud 17 as the primary lever 13. The part 172 of the stud 17 upon which the lever 16 is pivoted is eccentric in relation to the part 171 thereof on which the lever 13 is pivoted. Motion of the secondary lever 16 is transmitted to the ring or other element by which the yarn or like is guided to the package through a chain 161 attached to the free end of the lever 16. The secondary cam 14 is intermittently partially rotated by the operation of pawl and ratchet gearing 18, 19 mounted on the lever 13 and adapted to be actuated by each oscillation thereof by the impingement of a picking lever 20 against an abutment 21. This action also serves through the shaft 29, worm gear 30 and worm wheel 31 to effect an angular adjustment of the pivot 17 and thus by shifting the eccentric pivot axis of the lever 16 to alter the effective length of the lever 16 so that successive reversals of the building motion traverse occur at slightly varying positions in each cycle during which the second cam executes a single revolution.
