Abstract

770,841. Dishwashing machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. June 16,1955 [June 17, 1954], No. 17425/55. Class 138(1) A dishwashing machine comprises a tube or vat 1, a rotary impeller 5 (driven by a motor 6) mounted within the tube for circulating liquid in a generally rotary path in the tub and an annular sump 7 depending from the tub adjacent the impeller 5 and surrounding the axis of the impeller, wherein the. sump 7 has a bottom wall 10 of spiral form, upwardly inclined ; in the direction of rotation of the liquid, from a lower level 12 adjacent a drain port 14 to a. higher level 13, connected by a step 11 with the lower level 12 and the port 14. The sump, formed between concentric cylindrical wall portions 8 and 9, depends from the bottom wall 4 of the tub which may be rectangular in cross-section and is provided with a cover 2. The drain port is connected by a pipe 15 with a drain pump 16. In operation liquid together with food soil swirls upwardly around the wall 10 until the food passes over the step 11 whereafter it gravitates to the lowest portion of the sump and is prevented from recirculating by the effect of turbulence adjacent the drain port 14. The food soil is discharged from the tube when the pump 16 is operated.
