Abstract

770,175. Electrical resistors. WELWYN ELECTRICAL LABORATORIES, Ltd., and BROWNING, J. March 22, 1955 [Feb. 4, 1954], No. 3361/54. Drawings to Specification. Classes 37 and 38 (1). An electrical resistor produced by subjecting to reducing conditions a material containing titanium dioxide has applied thereto a layer of a metal or metal alloy selected from gold, platinum, palladium, iridium, rhodium and osmium so as to provide terminals having. negligible contact resistance. Suitable metal compounds are gold, platinum, iridium and palladium resinates, sulpho-resinates and alginates, but preferably a gold/platinum alloy is used. The metal compounds are applied as a solution; a sol or as a colloidal dispersion, the solvent or other vehicle being removed as by gentle heating before firing at a temperature of 600-700‹ C. The coating may be applied by using a roller printer, dipping, spraying or brushing. After firing an overcoating of silver, which is thicker than the noble metal coating, may be applied. Specifications 467,113, [Group V], and 583,061 are referred to.
