Abstract

770,125. Printing surfaces. LEVEY CO., Inc., F. H. May 16, 1955 [March 2, 1955], No. 14072/55. Class 100(2) A device for tensioning a printing plate 2 around a printing cylinder 1 comprises a pair of co-operating flexible clamping jaws 4 co-extensive with the width of the printing plate and having upper edges tapering toward each other and terminating substantially flush with the peripheral surface of the cylinder. A lug 8 on a .clamping member 5 is positioned between the lower ends of the clamping jaws 4 and is adapted to co-operate with the jaws in clamping the ends of the plate. Packer bars 12 are positioned at intervals along each side of the jaws 4 and are adapted to bear thereon to tension the plate. An eccentric cam 14 is associated with each bar 12 to force the bar 12 against the cooperating jaw 4 and a pinion gear 15 is provided for actuating each cam 14. Each gear 15 is operated by a rack 17 extending longitudinally of the cylinder 1, the racks being operated by screws 18 extending through the end of the cylinder. Face plates 9 are secured to the cylinder by plates 10 and screws 11, the plates 9 defining the opening through which the jaws 4 may be inserted prior to the insertion of the ends of the plate 2.
