Abstract

The device comprises a slot (23) in the cylinder (1) having overhanging edges (16 and 17) over one of which is located the bent-over end (18) of the flexible printing plate (19). The cylinder (1) is reversibly driven and the edge (16 or 17) is selected so that the leading end of the plate (19) is retained thereby. The trailing end (15) of the plate (19) has an elongate opening (9) receiving teeth (13) spaced along the edge (11) of a steel leaf spring (7) secured in the cylinder (1), the ends of the teeth (13) having lateral projections (14) which engage the upper surface of the bent- down plate end (15). When the spring (7) retains the plate end (15) it is held deflected, as shown, to exert a tensile force on the plate (19). To deflect the spring (7) to the right or left for engagement with the opening (9) an appropriate one of two spindles (3 and 4) is rotated, these spindles having eccentric surfaces formed by planar surfaces (6 and 5). After engagement of the spring (7) with the opening (9) the spindle (3 or 4) is rotated back to disengage the spring. <IMAGE>
