R. GROSSKOPF ROTARY PRINTING PRESS Filed July 30, 1924 g if Patented July 14 1925,
UNITED STATES RICHARD GROSSKOPF, OF DRESDEN, GERMANY."
ROTARY PRINTING mess;
Application filed July so, 1924. Serial m. 729,022.
at Dresden, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotary Printing Presses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in the means, fitted to the pressure roll or rolls of rotary printing presses, for setting the sheet of paper in accurate register with each of the set of plates or printing blocks used in multi-colour printing, the said means being hereunder referred to as the register bar. The aim of the said improvements is to render it possible to set and re-set the sheet with one or more colour impressions so that it may be easily caused to register with the further printing plates mounted on the printing roll for being provided with subsequent impressions.
Devices have already been proposed to serve the same purpose, but the difference between these devices and that according to the present invention is that the said known devices do not remain in the position of rest, but always become again operative while printing is proceeding.
A. constructional example of the device according to the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a cross-section through the pressure and printing rolls;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the adjustable register bar;
Figures 3 and 4 are sections through the adjusting and clamping means, respectively.
Figure 5 illustrates the pin or peg for displacing the register ban.
The continuously rotating printing roll a and the intermittently rotated pressure roll I) are shown in their relative position when the sheet 0 to be printed has come in contact with the castellated or comb-like register bar at, just before the said sheet is seized by the gripper e and before the pressure roll I) is rotated. The register bar 03' is mounted on a plate 9 of the pressure roll I) by means of two supporting arms 7 each having a cut-out portion 0; the said bar may be shifted on the plate and adjusted thereon within a small angle. The supporting members f engage, with a certain amount of lateral play, a recess on the underside of the rigidly secured holding means Z,
and engage underclampingmeansia, whereby the said supports are prev ted by the pins 1:. from shifting late-rallyifiA screw it forsecuring the various elements inposition engages a screw-thread in the plate 9 and passes through the cut-out portion 0. The gripper e seizes the sheets for printing purposes. The register bar d is moved by means of the peg or pin 7;; and 'of the setting holes 71.
The device works as follows: After loosening the securing screws h the register bar at is moved backwards. or forwards according I to requirements and is if necessary moved angularly by engaging the pin is in one of the setting holes iand by exerting a pressure against the clamping means m. The
register bar is thereafter secured in'position by means of the screws in.
I claim:
1. An adjustable register bar for use on the pressure roll of a printing press, having in combination means for fixing said bar to a supporting plate disposed in a recess in said pressure roll, comprising in combination a plurality of supporting arms secured at right angles to said register bar and adapted to rest on said supporting plate, a.
guide member snugly engaging over each supporting arm and secured to the supporting plate adjacent the register bar, and means adjacent the outer ends of the supporting arms to-adjustably clamp the said ends against the supporting plat 2. An adjustable register bar for use on the pressure roll of a rotary printing press having in combination means for fixing said bar to a supporting plate disposed in a recess in said pressure roll, comprising in combination a plurality of supporting arms secured at right angles to said register bar and adapted to rest on said supporting plate, a guide member snugly engaging over each supporting arm and secured to the supporting plate adjacent the register bar, a clamping member engaging over each sup-porting arm and secured to the supporting plate adjacent the outer ends of the supporting arms,
means for adjusting the supporting arms in relation to each of the. clamping members arms havm'g alarge opening therethroug adjacent its outer end, and a plurality of small openings therein along its len h, two
- recessed guide members each secure to the plate and engaging over the supporting inner ends 0 the supporting arms the sides of the recesses in the guide members converging towards the register bar and engaging the sides of the supporting, arms at thatnend ofthe recess nearest thedegister bar, two clamping members each secured to the supporting plate and engaging 15 over the outer end of each su porting arm and across the large recess an the series of small openings in said supporting arms, and a'clamping screw passin throu h each of the clamping members an throng the large 20 recess therein and into the supporting late. In testimony whereof I have signe my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
