Material is fed to a stock-pile of circular plan by apparatus mounted on a central mast 1 and is withdrawn through apparatus disposed in a circle concentric with the pile. The pile may be confined by walls 9, Fig. 1, forming an outer inverted frustum of the cone and an inner cone on which is mounted a structure 1, 2, 4 supporting conveyers and shoots by which material is deposited in the path. Gates 10 controlling the withdrawal apertures lead to a circular tunnel which contains an annular platform 11 mounted by means of wheels 12 running on a circular rail 13 to move around the tunnel so as to convey material from the gates 10 to a plough 14 which discharges the material on to a conveyer 16. The pile is formed by a conveyer 5 mounted on a luffing jib 4 carried by a slewing structure 3 above which is mounted a spiral shoot 7 fed through a hopper 6 from a fixed conveyer 2. A gate 8 in the wall 9 is disposed so that, when the stock-pile is exhausted, material may be delivered directly from the conveyer 5 to the conveyer 16. The walls 9 may be omitted and the material piled on a flat surface and more than one withdrawal tunnel and annular platform 11 may be arranged concentrically. A telescoping system of conveyers may be arranged on the jib 4. The platform 11 may be replaced by a train of independent platforms articulated in the ring. In an alternative construction a conveyer is mounted beneath the stock-pile so that it may be turned to register with any of a series of radial tunnels beneath the pile. It may then be moved along the tunnel to receive material from gates in the roof of the tunnel and deliver it to a central shoot. Specification 762,278 is referred to.
