Abstract

769,083. Shelves. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. May 18, 1955 [May 20, 1954], No. 14380/55. Class 52 (1). A rotatable shelf 9 for a refrigerator or other cabinets is given at least a threepoint support by a front transverse supporting member 16 and a rear member 17,fixed to the back of the cabinet, and is pivoted at 28 to the supporting member 16. The shelf has a rear edge 10 in the shape of an arc of a circle and a straight front edge 11, and has a flange 23 extending along its perimeter on which the shelf rests. The transverse supporting member 16 rests on elements 12, 14 fixed in the side of the cabinet and has a glider strip 26 of nylon to reduce friction to a minimum. The pivot 28 passes through the shelf at the centre of a circle bounded by the rear edge 10 of the shelf and is arranged so that the shelf exerts no thrust through the pivot on the transverse supporting member 16. The rear member 17 has a bush 20 journalled to it thus providing a roller over which the flange 23 passes. Stops 31, 32 at the ends of the rear edge of the shelf restrict its rotation by abutting the rear member 17. Alternative elements 13, 15 (not shown) and rear members 18, 19 are provided above elements 12, 14 and rear member 17 on which the shelf may be rested. The members 17 and 18, or 18 and 19 limit vertical movement of the shelf and prevent its tipping if unevenly loaded.
