Dust is removed from the return run 2 of a conveyer belt used for conveying coal or other dry materials by electrostatic attraction due to a static electric charge which is induced on a roller 1 made of dielectric material, such as glass or polymethyl methacrylate, by rotating the roller at high speed in contact with a brush 3 having nylon bristles 4.
