Abstract

767,894. Electric space heater. DAMOND, E. March 7, 1955 [March 9, 1954], No. 6658/55. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XIII] To enable electricity and steam (or other hot fluid) to be used alternatively or simultaneously for space-heating, e.g. in a railway coach which is subject to electric or steam traction, a steam &c. radiator is formed in two parts, fins 8 fixed on one part B fitting between, fins 3 fixed on the other part A which may be an existing electrically-heated installation to be modified by the addition of the part B. Heating resistances are contained: in tubes 1, 2 joined to a connection box 5 of part A, and when the parts are interfitted, a steam box 11 of the part B is located adjacent the box 5 so that steam pipes 6, 7, connected one above the other to the steam box, lie between the tubes 1, 2, slots 9 in the fins 8 fitting over the tubes. The parts A, B are held together by a rod secured, by nuts on its ends, in slots 22 in some of the fins 3, 8. The pipes 6, 7 are connected respectively to a steam compartment 12 and a condensate compartment 13 in the steam box 11, Fig. 4. A union interconnects the other ends of the pipes 6, 7.
