Abstract

<PICT:0457155/III/1> An apparatus suitable for effecting the reaction between carbon monoxide and steam according to Specification 438,757, [Group XII], comprises a heat-exchanger 5 and a catalytic mass 2 disposed one behind the other in a single heat-insulating shell 1. The conduit 6 connecting the two parts is also preferably disposed entirely within the shell, as shown, and the reaction products may be conducted around it by a jacket 7 to increase the heat exchange.
