Abstract

767,611. Moulding concrete &c. blocks. AMET, P. J. M., and TETARD, C. J. J. July 2. 1954, No. 19405/54. Class 87(2). In moulding building blocks from concrete and other aggregates the material, in a moulding box, is consolidated by penetration with a core or cores by means of a sudden impact obtained by dropping the assembly. In an example, Fig. 2, cores 5 on base plate 6 are positioned by locating pins 25 on a floor 22 so as to extend into a moulding box 1 vertically slidable on limbs 27 and held in a raised position relative to the floor by the engagement of a locking stop 33, hinged at 31 on limbs 27, with flange 32. In operation, the cover 2 of the moulding box 1 is removed and the box filled with moulding material. The cover is then clipped in position and the stop 33 released so that the mould box 1 is supported only by the material it contains. The operator then lifts the whole assembly by the handles 26 and drops it thus driving the cores into the moulding material and effecting the consolidation. The cover 2 is removed and the box 1 and core members 5 on base plate 6 are inverted by handles 9, the cores 5 are then removed by gripping plate 6 through handle openings 21 and the box and detachable bottom plate 3 are removed to free the block from the mould. In a modification, Figs. 4 and 5, the assembly is supported by a displaceable table 38 on a slide block 39 mounted for vertical travel along two guide pillars 40. The block 39 is supported by a pedal-operated member 45 pivoted about a pin 44 at the base of pillars 40 and counterpoised by a weight 47 to keep it in the full-line position shown in Fig. 5. In operation, the core members 5 on the base plate 6 are located on the table 38 by pins and the mould box 1 is supported by stops 57 mounted on limbs 60 sliding in flanges 61 on table 38. The box is filled and the cover 2 secured in place, after which the handles 59 are moved horizontally to displace the limbs 60 and stops 57 thus leaving the box 1 supported only by the material to be moulded. The operator now depresses crutch pedal 46 to the dotted line position of Fig. 5 releasing the block 39 so that the whole assembly falls to the base of pillars 40 and the cones penetrate as before. The crutch member 45 may be formed with a series of staggered stepped inclines to enable the block 39 to fall in a number of successive steps.
