Abstract

257,343. Concrete, Ltd., and Mathews, C. B. May 29, 1925. Tamping - machines.- To ensure blocks of uniform size, the tampers act through an intervening member which is adapted to penetrate the mould to a definite extent. As shown, concrete is pressed in a mould 2 by pressers 4 carried by an intervening member 8 adapted to receive blows from hammers 9 operated through cams 13 and springs 18. A shoulder 5 limits the descent of the pressers into the mould. The member 8 is suspended from a carriage 11 supporting the hammers &c. and adapted to be raised by ropes 21 clear of the moulded blocks which are ejected from the mould by a bottom plate 2a actuated through rods 25, 27. The mould may be subdivided by partitions and furnished with cores. According to the Provisional Specification, the hammers are operated by rack-andpinion gear controlled by pedal or lever operated detents, or by a pneumatic or steam hammer; also the blocks are ejected by lever mechanism.
