Abstract

310,548. Eckstein, G. April 27, 1928, [Convention date]. Moulding-machines; moulds; guiding flasks and moulds.-A moulding machine, for pressing half patterns a, b simultaneously into the upper and lower faces of a filled flask, has the upper portion b in staggered relation to the lower pattern a so that, when the mould boxes 17, Fig. 4, are piled with corresponding cavities aligned, they have a stepped formation leaving the gates 29 exposed. A flask is first clamped, by screws 19, Fig. 1, in a frame 18 having guiding lugs 28 and pins 20 offset by an amount x equal to the staggering of the patterns a, b. The frame 18 is placed on a plate 15 formed with the pattern a and lugs 21, a false flask 22 is applied, and the whole is filled with sand. A plate 16 formed with the pattern b and pins 27 is then swung into position over the frame &c. and pressed down by links 24, levers 25, shaft 26, and hand-lever not shown. The plate 16 is then raised and swung aside, and the frame 18 &c. lifted from the plate 15 by supports 9 and crank gear operated by a handle 11. When the flasks are being piled the frames 18, Fig. 4, align them correctly each frame being removed, when the next frame has been placed on it, by releasing the clamps 19, opening the end 18b, lowering, and moving to the left. The joints and slides 14 of the swinging head are placed out of the way of falling sand and provided with a cover 13.
