[Also in Group X] A travelling prop structure for mines, particularly for steeply-inclined seams and carrying a conveying shoot i for coal, comprises working frames a<1>, a<2> &c., each consisting of roof and floor caps of flat spring steel connected by props, adjacent frames being connected alternately by rigid rods g and rods h in two parts pivoted together which allow movement of a frame relative to an adjacent frame when it swings by rods g on the frame on the other side. Both tops and bottoms of the props are connected by the rods g. The props are hydraulic and are released on each working frame when it is to be moved. A frame is swung on the rods g by gravity and by a compressed air cylinder which has claws at both ends engaging one prop on the moving frame and one prop on an adjacent fixed frame, or a claw on the side of the cylinder may engage a fixed prop. The working frames al, a<2>, &c. are moved forward in order as the coal is removed by the coal cutter w. The shoot i comprises triangles articulated together, laid on and travelling forward with the prop structure. Braking devices or steps may be used to regulate the speed of the coal. Each working frame comprises three vertical props and an oblique prop on the gobbing side, the setting of the last being delayed until the vertical props have been set.
