In an advancing mine roof support a pair of hydraulic or non-hydraulic props 1, 2 are connected by horizontal pivots to the ends of a rocker beam 3 centrally pivoted about a vertical axis on a hydraulic shifting cylinder 15 whose piston rod 16 is universally pivoted at 18 to a conveyer, the angular movement of the beam 3 relative to the cylinder 15 being limited by resiliently-mounted stops. During advance the props are released alternately, the beam 3 being swung about the front prop to advance the rear prop each time the conveyer is moved. The rod 16 is normally at right angles to the conveyer. If the advancing movements result in a deviation from this angle, energy is stored in the resilient mounting of the stops, said energy being released at the next advance to restore the right-angles relationship. The props thus automatically follow the movements of the conveyer. The resilient mounting for the stops may be provided by springs, but as shown the stops comprise lugs 37, Fig. 3, engaging apertures in a cage 38 on the beam 3, the lugs being resiliently connected to a tube 28 through a compressed rubber sleeve 35. The tube 28 is pivoted on the cylinder 15 by a transverse pin 27.
