Abstract

767,189. Protective cut-out systems. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Dec. 9, 1953, No. 3206755. Divided out of 767,188. Class 38(5) In a circulating-current protective system for power transformer in which a relay 27 is supplied with operating current over a rectifier 36, operation of the relay due to through-faults or magnetizing currents is prevented by a further rectifier or rectifiers connected in parallel with the relay and arranged to provide a low impedance shunt path to the relay when supplied with alternating current. The Figure shows the arrangement for one of the phases of a delta-star transformer, the primary winding 14 of a load bias transformer 21 being connected in one of the circulating-current lines and the primary winding 17 of a differential current transformer 25 being connected between the winding 14 and the star point of the line current transformers on the delta side of the transformer. One secondary winding 34 of the transformer 25 is connected to the rectifier 36 through a tuned circuit 37...39, and the other secondary winding 35 is connected to a rectifier 41 which in combination with a rectifier 22 and a resistor 40 is connected in shunt with the relay, the rectifier 22 being connected to the secondary winding 20 of the load bias transformer 21. The turns ratio of the transformer 25 and the tuning of the impedances 37...39 is such that the operating current supplied to the rectifier 36 is dependent on the fundamental frequency whilst that supplied to the rectifier 41 is dependent on the second harmonic. In the event of an internal fault in the transformer, the winding 34 supplies current through the rectifier 36 to operate the re, lay 27, but in the event of through-fault tne energizing of the rectifier 22 causes the operating current from the rectifier 36 to flow through the shunt circuit rather than through the relay and in the event of magnetizing currents the rectifier 41 has a similar effect, the relay being prevented from operating.
