Abstract

766,067. Making fasteners. LIGHTNING FASTENERS, Ltd. July 2, 1954 [July 3, 1953], No. 18578/53. Class 83 (2). In a method of making interlocking members for zip fasteners from formed wire which has been rolled to Y-shaped cross-section, the members are partially sheared from the wire so as to expose a substantial part of the surface area for electrolytic treatment before the members are completely separated. The shearing is carried out in the region where the members are to be provided with interlocking detents or projections so that' the untreated areas are not visible. The partially sheared wire may be anodized and dyed, electroplated or electropolished, the material at the partially sheared connection providing electrical continuity.
