Abstract

766,017. Two-part couplings. ACADEMY ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS CORPORATION. Aug. 20, 1954, No. 24247/54. Class 38 (1). A socket connector for attaching to the end of a flat twin-conductor cable W comprises a base 10 with a sloping cable-receiving channel 11 therein along which the cable is slid from one open end. At the opposite end of the base is an arcuate lip 13 which co-operates with an arcuate pin 25 moulded on a cover 20 to form a hinge. The cover carries a pair of conductive members each of which has integral blade contacts 30 and insulation-piercing barbs 31, 32, the members being assembled on either side of a rib 22 with the blades 30 lying beneath apertures in the top of the cover to form pairs of pin-engaging contacts. When the cover is swung into closed position on the base, the barbs 31 penetrate the insulation and conductors of the cable W to form a connection therewith, whilst the barbs 32 pierce the insulation to form a cord grip. The cover is retained in the closed position by a latch 16 on the base engaging a detent 24.
