Abstract

765,960. Copying telegraphy. CREED & CO., Ltd. March 11, 1955 [March 18, 1954], No. 7230/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (3). [Also in Group XXIV] The driving belt employed in a facsimile scanning mechanism to traverse stylus members past a sheet of electro-sensitive recording paper is formed of rubber or a similar synthetic flexible material within which is embedded longitudinal fine steel wires to prevent the gradual stretching of the belt with age. Holders for the stylus members are carried on the outer face of the belt and the inner face is formed with cogs for engagement with corresponding cogs on a driving pulley. In one way of securing the stylus holders to the belt, screws are utilised extending through the belt to plates on the inner face. The inner plates are formed of tempered spring steel and are arranged to engage and slide along a pair of magnetic guide rails as described in Specification 750,753. In an alternative arrangement the holders are cemented to the belt with corresponding plates to engage the guide rails cemented on the inner face. In the region where the stylus members traverse across the recording paper, the stylus holders engage a metal contact bar which urges them against the recording paper with constant writing pressure and also effects the necessary electrical connection. In an alternative arrangement for making electrical connection, the belt. is made of conductive rubber. Specification 734,435 also is referred to.
