Abstract

A lubricating composition comprises gallium thickened to a grease consistency with an inorganic colloid. Colloids referred to are carbon black, graphite, silica, silica gel, calcium silicate, molybdenum disulphide, attapulgus clay, titanium dioxide, barium oxide, bentonite, and the product obtained by treating bentonite with a quaternary aliphatic amine salt, e.g. dimethyldioctadecyl ammonium hydrochloride. From 30-99 per cent of gallium and from 1-70 per cent of the colloid may be used. The compositions may be added in all proportions to silicone lubricating oils, such as polysiloxanes, e.g. dimethyl polysiloxanes, polysilcarbanes and polysilanes. The compositions may be prepared by mixing, heating to 90-500 DEG F. and grinding, or grinding alone when the compositions are mixed with silicone oils.
