765,223. Turbines; power generating systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 24, 1955 [Jan. 22, 1954], No. 1992/54. Classes 110 (3) and 122 (3). To increase the steam flow from an incoming boiler so as to produce a rapid increase in the temperature of the steam supplied to a large capacity steam turbine plant, steam is tapped from the steam supply system at a point on the boiler side of a turbine stop-valve located adjacent the turbine steam chest and supplied to a quick-starting air ejector provided with its own atmospheric condensing equipment whereby vacuum can be raised quickly in the main condenser without loss of condensate. Steam from a boiler is supplied to the turbine 3 through a pipe 1 and stop-valve 2. A pipe 4, connected to pipe 1, supplies steam to a large quick-starting air ejector 5 provided with a condenser chamber. This chamber is connected by a pipe 6 and trap 7 to the condenser 8. The pipe 6 may also include a float valve and flashbox. When the ejector 5 is required to deal with a large steam flow, the condenser chamber may be fed with a normal cooling water supply as an alternative to the supply of condensate. Steam for sealing the glands may be tapped off through pipe 11. Thermocouples disposed at the stop valve and inner wall of the steam chest may be provided to indicate when the valve 2 should be opened.
