Abstract

765,213. Applying flexible sleeves, STOLLER I. April 26, 1954 [May 1, 1953 ; Oct. 13, 1953], Nos. 12055/53 and 28111/53. Class 108(3). [Also in Group VI] Apparatus for applying flexible sleeves comprises a plurality of resilient members formed of stiff springy wire bent to present a rounded free end connected together. at one end into a head and assembled around an opening symmetrically from the axis thereof, the diameter of the head being not substantially greater than that of the assembly of members, the members being adapted collectively to carry a flexible sleeve in substantially circular disposition. A tubular bandage applicator comprises a number of wire loops 19 connected to one another at their free ends by a thimble 20, a sprocket-like member 21 preferably being provided to hold the ends securely within the thimble 20. In an alternative construction, Fig. 7, wire loops 25 are welded at their free ends to wire rings 24. The loops 19, 25 may diverge from one another, or be arranged parallel to one another, or may be longer on one side of the applicator than the other to facilitate the application of a tubular bandage to a bent limb. In use a length of tubular bandage is threaded on the applicator, the applicator is passed over a limb and withdrawn leaving a portion of tubular bandage on the limb, the operation being repeated to apply successive layers of bandage to the limb as required. The applicator is made from wire which may be plated or plastic-coated or made wholly from wire-like synthetic plastic.
