Abstract

764,894. Electrostatic precipitators. HOLMES & CO., Ltd., W. C., SYKES, W., and ARMITAGE, F. Sept. 20, 1954, No. 27109/54. Class 39(1). A tripping device for the rapping mechanism of an electrostatic precipitator comprises three cooperating claw-like bell crank levers 3, pivoted at 6 and engaging with rollers 9 on pin 17 .between the limbs of a connecting rod 5 threadedly engaged with shaft 18 connected to hammers, which levers 3, after a predetermined upward movement through the links 4 and insulator 19, separate by means of a toggle action, caused by the spring connected rods 14 to which the upper ends of the levers 3 are connected, and allow the hammers to fall under their own weight against action of spring 16 to effect rapping. During the upward motion a roller 11 on the pin 6 moves in slot 2b and rollers 12 on rods 14 move in slots 2a to ultimately contact pins 17 at upper ends of the slots and effect the toggle action. The upward movement of the pin 17 connected to the hammers can be adjusted by adjusting its position in spaced bores 21 in the limbs of the rod 5. A stop pin 3c carried between the levers 3 is arranged to abut against the under side of the upper arm of the inner lever 3 to limit the opening movement of the claw members. The upward and downward movement of the mechanism is effected by upward and downward movement of the insulator 19. One pair of side pieces 2 is detachable by removal of nuts on bolts 23 and pins 7.
