Abstract

A mineral oil base textile oil composition which is free from components which yield in aqueous solutions anions which form calcium compounds of low water solubility comprises a major proportion of a mineral oil, from 0.5 to 20 per cent by weight of an oil-soluble polyglycolester of an unsaturated C15-C23 fatty acid, from 20 to 50 per cent based on the ester of an oil-soluble polyether glycol, and a proportion of an oil-soluble unsaturated fatty-acid partial ester of a polyhydric alcohol said partial ester being present in not more than 50 per cent by weight based on the polyglycol ester and wherein the polyglycol ester has the formula:- <FORM:0764418/III/1> where R is a C14-C22 unsaturated aliphatic radical, n is an integer of from 2-6, and X is an integer from 5 to 30, and the polyether glycol has the general formula:-R- (OCn H2n) X -OH wherein R is an aryl or aralkyl saturated or unsaturated C10-C20 group, n is an integer of 2-6 and X is an integer of from 2-20. The preferred emulsifiers are alkyl-aryl polyether alcohols in which R is nonyl or phenyl, n is 2 and X averages about 4 1/2 . The oil solubility increasing agent may be an oil-soluble unsaturated fatty acid partial ester of a higher polyhydric alcohol such as sorbitan monooleate. The preferred proportions are 80-90 per cent of mineral oil, 5-15 per cent of detergent, and 20-50 per cent of emulsifier based on the detergent.
