Abstract
764,375. Gas manufacture. WURZ, F. Feb. 9, 1955 [Feb. 11, 1954], No. 3901/55. Class 55 (2). High calorific value gases are produced by impregnating coke, preferably coke breeze, or aerolitic rock, pumice, &c. with oils, preferably low-grade oils, crude mineral oils, tar oils, &c. up to e.g. 25 per cent by weight of oil, and heating to at least 700‹ C., preferably from 1100-1300‹ C., in a gas extraction oven of normal construction so as to gasify the oils without substantial decomposition of the coke, which can afterwards be recharged with oil. The process may be effected in some only of a battery of coke ovens, the others being operated in the usual way and the gases from all, being combined.
