Abstract

764,364. Galvanizing. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION. Feb. 4, 1955, No. 3446/55. Class 82(2) In the continuous galvanizing of steel strip where the strip leaves the zinc bath through coating rolls 14, 15, the side portions of the strips are subjected to a mechanical blowing and simultaneous heating by gas flames from burners 17, one at each edge of the strip. The heating retards the cooling rate of the zinc on the marginal portions but does not appreciably raise the temperature and thus preserves the spangled appearance. In a modification (not shown) burners are arranged in pairs one of each pair blowing one side of the marginal zone, the other one dealing with the other side.
