Abstract
763,682. Synchronous machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Jan. 4, 1955 [Jan. 4, 1954], No. 244/55. Class 35. A rotor for a synchronous motor or generator comprises a squirrel cage carried by a laminated ring within which are secured permanent magnet blocks. The magnets which are located on a shaft 1 are arranged in pairs 4, 4 and 5, 5 and the outer polarity of one pair being opposite to that of the other pair as shown in Fig. 1. The shaft 1 has a portion of rhombic crosssection on whose flats the magnets 4, 5 are located and from which they extend to meet the ring 7. Unequal flux density in the magnets is prevented by making the cross-section of each magnet constant throughout its radial length by making the axial length of each magnet progressively longer towards the inner part as in Fig. 2 where the magnet axial outer edge is represented by L and that of the inner edge by M. Specification 677,940 and U.S.A. Specification 2,643,350 are referred to.
