Abstract

763,679. Stuffing-box substitutes. NORTHERN TRUST CO. Jan. 3, 1955, No. 141/55. Class 122 (5). [Also in Group XXXIV] A bearing seal comprises a retainer 41, having a radial wall 41b and a flange 41a press-fitted in an outer race 18, a flinger 40, having an inclined wall 42b and a flange 42a press-fitted on an inner race 22, and a felt ring 43 bonded to the flinger 40, the outer periphery of the felt being compressed between the retainer and flinger and the inner peripheral portion of the felt being spaced from the retainer. The flinger 40 has a wall portion 42c having a close running clearance relation with the outer race, and a similar clearance exists between the inner periphery of the retainer 41 and the inner race 22. The end of the flange 42a is disposed close to the inner periphery of the retainer 41. In a modification a flange 52a of a flinger 50, Fig. 3, extends under a radial wall 51b of a retainer 51.
