Abstract

[Also in Group XXII] A method of providing a bearing in or through a hole in a sheet consists in inserting a headed bush or eyelet through said hole so that the head abuts one side of the sheet, placing a washer over the projecting reduced portion of the bush, and upsetting the reduced end to expand it outwardly over an inner periphery of said washer to hold the bush, and washer, together on the sheet material. A hingebracket 1 for a motor-vehicle has parallel flanges 2 for accommodating bearings 3 for the hingepin (not shown). Each bearing is formed by a flanged brass-bush 4 inserted through a hole 7 in the flange 2, the reduced end being expanded into a steel washer 9 which is chamfered at 14. Alternatively, the washer may be of brass and the bush steel, the washer being located on the inside of the flange 2 to provide a bearing surface. In a modification the bush is stepped, Fig. 6, and the washer has a counterbore 19 for receiving the expanded portion of the bush. The bush may have a blind bore to serve as a socket.
