Abstract

762,662. Powder metallurgy. COMSTOCK, G. J. May 11, 1954 [April 21, 1953], No. 10965/53. Class 83 (4). In the production of a body from metal powder, one portion of the body being of a metal or alloy different from that of the other portion or portions, the particles of the metal or alloy are bonded together by a metal or alloy having a sintering temperature lower than the melting-point of any metal or alloy forming a major component of any portion of the body. For the production of a body having a portion of iron and another portion of copper, the binding metal may be cobalt or nickel and the sintering temperature 1750‹ F. Alternatively the binder could be the ternary eutectic alloy of silver, copper and cadmium and the pressing temperature range 1250-1350‹ F., at which temperature the binding alloy melts.
