Abstract

The invention comprises a dyestuff which in its anionic form is of formula:- <PICT:0762417/IV(b)/1> and which may be made by treating the dyestuff obtained by coupling diazotized anthranilic acid with 1- (21-methylphenyl)-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone under weakly acid to alkaline conditions with amounts of chromium yielding agents corresponding to 0.5 to 0.6 atomic proportions of chromium. The starting dyestuff may be made by coupling in an aqueous medium in the presence of excess sodium carbonate. Conventional chroming agents are specified and metallization is preferably effected in an aqueous medium in the presence of solvents such as ethanol, n-butanol, b -ethoxy-ethanol, ethylene glycol, mono-and diethanolamine and pyridine and with the addition of a wetting or a dispersing agent. The dyestuff dyes animal fibres, e.g. wool and silk, synthetic nitrogenous fibres, e.g. those of superpolyamides and superpolyurethanes, and fibres from natural and synthetic proteins. Wool and silk are dyed from neutral or weakly acid dye-baths the former in yellow shades. An example is provided of the preparation of the dyestuff and its use in dyeing wool and nylon.
