Abstract
In the production of monochloro-substitution products by reaction of an olefine and chlorine, particularly the production of allyl chloride from propene and chlorine, the chlorine is added to the olefine in a series of reaction zones with turbulent mixing and continuous discharge so that the quantity of reaction mixture in each zone remains substantially constant and side reactions between allyl chloride and chloride are avoided.ALSO:In a gas phase reaction where side reactions between the initial reactants and products may take place one of the reactants is supplied in a plurality of stages or reaction zones with turbulent homogeneous mixing and continuous discharge from the reaction zones so that the total quantity of reaction mixture in each reaction zone remains constant.
