Abstract

761,569. Mixing appliances. ANDOUART, L. Nov. 30, 1953 [Dec 8, 1952; Oct 26, 1953], No. 33257/53. Class 86 [Also in Group V] In a method of gelatinating mixed raw materials for a synthetic plastic, the mixture is submitted to successive gelatination treatments in each of which treatment it is subjected to stirring, compression, thermal treatment and release of the pressure, all components in liquid or gaseous state which are evolved from the mixture being drawn off during each release of pressure except for the last treatment. An extruding machine for carrying out the method comprises sections 2, 2a, 2b separated by perforate grids 6 and containing a composite extruding worm 1 having a shaft of increasing diameter extending from 'an inlet 5 to an outlet grid 10, each section having a heating device 3 and a cooling device 4. At the upstream ends of the sections 2a, 2b, tubes 8 for connection with a vacuum pump, are provided for the withdrawal of water and gases. Associated with the outlet grid 10 are cutting knives 11, preferably driven through a variable speed drive, which cut the materials extruded through the grid 10 into pieces or granules.
