Abstract
761,414. Jointing. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 16, 1954 [Aug. 18, 1953], No. 23773/54. Class 83 (4). A method of joining two parts with the use of cementing material of the solid kind which at first becomes fluid when treated and subsequently hardens and in which the surfaces to be joined tightly contact one another in the assembled position of the parts, is characterized in that the surfaces to be joined each include at least one groove or recess which in the assembled position of the parts co-operate to constitute an aperture in which the cement is provided. In an embodiment a bearing 2 to be secured in a dynamo casing 1 has cavities 8 which are aligned with similar cavities 7 in the casing to form apertures 3 for receiving rods of ethoxyline resin adhesive. The assembly is heated in an oven whereby the resin becomes fluid and flows by capillary action between the bearing and casing surfaces 5 and 4. The resin sets hard on cooling and securely joins the members together. In a modification the members may be of rectangular cross-section and the apertures formed in each corner as shown in Fig. 4.
