Abstract
760,614. Circulating furnace atmospheres. CONTROLLED HEAT & AIR, Ltd. March 14, 1955 [March 16, 1954], No. 7561/54. Class 51 (2). A coil annealing furnace, particularly of the type disclosed in Specification 723,821, has a centrifugal fan e with blades curved or inclined relative to a radius to the axis of rotation of the fan to give a greater impelling action in the forward direction than in the reverse. During the initial heating and final cooling of the coils c the fan is rotated in reverse, but is rotated forwardly during the soaking period. The fan is mounted within a housing e<SP>1</SP> open at the periphery and having star or radial diffusion plates for the equal delivery of the atmosphere gas to the circumference of the lining. The change in direction of rotation of the fan is achieved automatically by means of a time or thermostatically actuated switch in the circuit to an electric motor driving the fan, this switch having means associated therewith to provide a time lag permitting the fan to come to rest before starting it in the opposite direction.
