Abstract

A carrier base for therapeutic substances for percutaneous administration comprises a B class vitamin, or functional derivative thereof, e.g. thiamin hydrochloride or mononitrate and a sugar ground together to an average particle size of 10 microns or less. A therapeutic substance of similar particle size is simultaneously or subsequently incorporated in the admixture, which may be used in dry form or incorporated in an emulsion, cream, paste, ointment &c. Several sugars, e.g. sucrose, dextrose, lactose may be present. Therapeutic substances mentioned are stilboectrol, ethinyl estradiol, testosterone propionate, vitamins B12 and C, vitamin oils, atropine, pilocarpine, physostigmine (eserine), senna, chrysarobin, aloin, (phenol phthalein, 1. 8-dihydroxy-anthranol, dinitrophenol-sodium, anthroquinone 2-sulphonic acid, sulphur. The cream &c. bases may contain glyceryl monostearate, cetyl alcohol, castor oil, Lanette wax (R.T.M.), stabilizers, &c.
