Abstract

A mouldable gel-like or solid composition for use in pharmacy or cosmetics comprises one or more di- or polyhydric alcohols containing not less than 4 and usually less than 10 carbon atoms together with one or more alkali metal or ammonium salts of C12 - C18 fatty acids. Specified di- or polyhydric alcohols include butyleneglycol, hexanetriol, 2 - ethyl - hexane-1 : 3 diol and sorbitol. Specified fatty acids are lauric, palmitic and stearic acids. Additional ingredients include ethyl alcohol, essential oils, insect repellants, disinfectants and sunburn protecting agents may also be incorporated. In an example a mouldable product is obtained by heating a mixture of stearic acid, 2 - ethylhexanediol - 1 : 3 and sodium hydroxide.
