760,284. Making bags. MEULEN, L. VANDER. Aug. 19, 1954 [Sept. 18, 1953], No. 24218/54. Class 94(2). In a method of making flat bags from two webs of material, a web is provided with a glue strip 8 on one edge by a roll 5 and is folded ovei along each edge at 9 and pressed at 10. A roll 12 provides the web with broad or double transverse glue strips 14 at intervals corresponding to the bag width, and with a glue strip 49 along the edge, and a web 2 is superposed on the web 1 and the web passed between pressing rollers 16, 17, 18. The roll 18 may be a drying cylinder. The webs are severed along the centre of the strip 14 at 19, 20, and the bags 25 removed by rolls 22, 41, co-operating with an endless belt 24. Pads 28, 29, on a cylinder 27 apply glue strips 32, and folding knives 30 or 31 co-operate with clamping means 34 or 33 respectively, on a cylinder 26, to fold over one edge of the bag in a hem 35 and seal it to the adjoining wall. Folding knives 37 or 50 cooperate with clamping means 38 or 39 respectively, on a cylinder 40 to hem the opposite edge 36, the finished bags being pressed between endless belts 45, 46.
