[Also in Group XXX] Vehicles placed in carriers or plat. forms 15 suspended from the link joints 4 of endless chains 2 are transported along and from floor to floor in a garage building 1. The chains 2 have rollers 6 running in guide rails 5 which have curves leading from one floor to another of radius greater than half the height of one storey and also have inverse curves 11 leading the height curves back on to the level of the next floor. The curves of the rails are elliptical. The vehicles are restrained from bumping each other by being suspended at each end of long rigid links forming the conveyer chain. To take up temperature variations in the endless chains 2 one section 12 of the guide rail 5 is resilient and shiftable by a piston in a cylinder 13 or by a spring. The chains 2 are pulled along by a short endless auxiliary chain 8 with depending triangular catches spaced to engage the pins 4 of the main chain 2. Each vehicle is driven on to a conveyer 3 at the entrance 15 after the chain has been. stopped by a switch on the carrier, when at 15, whereby through a relay 19, Fig. 6, the drive motor 10 is stopped at that position. Depression of the appropriate button 41 restarts the motor to allow a vehicle to be driven on to a particular carrier 3 when at the entrance 15. Instead of a push button an appropriate key 16, Fig. 6, bearing the number of the particular carrier is inserted in the same numbered keyhole 17 whereby switch 18 and relay 19 on its output side supplies the motor 10 and two smaller motors 22 controlling gates 24. The input side of relay 19 is connected to push button switches 25 outside the gates 24 and to a number of switches 21 each of which corresponds to one of the carriers 3. Then the motors 22 first push the locking bolt 23 into engagement with the carrier 3 standing at the entrance. The garage entrance could be sunk below ground level as in Fig. 8 (not shown).
