Abstract

759,679. Ammunition projectiles. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS (AIRCRAFT), Ltd. April 28, 1950 [April 29, 1949], No. 11534/49. Class 9(1) A guided missile 10; as described in Specification 759,678 comprises a skin 15 supported by bulkheads arranged on an axial spine 14 and wings 11, 12, pivotally mounted for movement in azimuth for control of the missile. Each wing is mounted on bearings 20 and the wings are initially swept-aft, Fig. 3, until the missile is discharged from its launching-gun. After this discharge, springs 25 move the wings into the transversely-spread position (Figs. 2, 4, not shown) and Fig. 5. In this position, a spring- loaded latch 33 locks the wings to annular members 26, and thereafter the wings are controlled individually or in unison by the operation of motors through rods 30, arms 28 and members 26. The Provisional Specification describes gearing between motor and wing comprising a rack and a toothed segment.
