Abstract
759,017. Extruding. SOUTHERN UNITED TELEPHONE CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 5, 1954 [Feb. 6, 1953], No. 3427/53. Class 83 (4). In the production of metal tubes 16 by the extrusion of metal through an annular extrusion orifice a<SP>1</SP>-b<SP>1</SP> formed between an inner die or mandrel 10 and an outer die 11, the latter has on the outlet side of the orifice an annular surface 13 adapted to exert a contracting action on the extruded tube so as to reduce its diameter beyond the natural contraction in diameter caused by the inward flow of the metal through the orifice. The die and mandrel may be adjusted axially relatively to each other for varying the size of the extrusion orifice. The invention is applicable to the extrusion of lead, aluminium or their alloys and in particular to the sheathing of cables with lead or lead alloy.
