Class 40(1) A servo mechanism operable in opposite directions is made to bias itself when operating in one'direction so that it overshoots, whereupon the bias is removed and true balance is produced by final movement in one direction only. The slider 4 of a slave potentiometer 3 is driven by a motor 6 to follow the movement of the slider 2 of the master potentiometer 1, unbalance current in one direction flowing through polarized relay 7 to close contacts 8, 9 energizing relay 11, causing motor 6 to rotate in one direction until balance is restored, and unbalance current in the other direction produces the opposite rotation in motor 6 by energization of relay 12 which, in addition, closes auxiliary contacts 21, 22 to energize a bias winding 19 on relay 7 so that the motor 6 overdrives slider 4 to produce balance, whereupon relay 12 drops, the bias is removed, and relay 11. is energized to restore true balance.
