Abstract
758,672. Electric tests. KELVIN & HUGHES, Ltd. Nov. 29, 1954 [Nov. 27, 1953], No. 32989/53. Class 37. An E.M.F. to be recorded, representing e.g. a temperature, is applied to the moving coil 1 of an ammeter, producing a twist of the resilient suspension ligaments 2, 3 which causes an attached arm 5 to move a metallic vane 6 between two coils 7, 8 thereby reducing their mutual coupling and causing a valve 13 to cease oscillating, whereby a relay 14 operates to close the energizing circuit of a motor 9 which, through a geared member 12, produces a back torque on the ligaments to restore the vane 6 to its normal position, the amount of rotation of the member 12 being proportional to the E.M.F. and recorded by a stylus 11 on a chart 15. In modifications the valve 13 may oscillate when the vane 6 is displaced from between the coils 7, 8 and a permanent magnet may be attached to the shaft of motor 9 and a conducting disc or cup attached to the moving coil 1 to produce drag between them when relative movement occurs, thereby restricting the amount of over-shooting and hunting.
