Abstract
786,775. Resistance measuring. NORTON GRINDING WHEEL CO., Ltd. Feb. 24, 1954 [April 13, 1953], No. 5416/54. Class 37. [Also in Group XXXV] In a control system for an electrolytic grinder (see Group XXXV), the resistance at the interface between the work Wand the grinding element CR<SP>1</SP> is computed by passing interface current and voltage signals in respective opposed torque coils 134, 135 fixed to the shaft 131 of an electro-dynamometer device, the current signal being derived over a rectifier bridge RB<SP>1</SP> from saturable inductors 106 associated with the current leads. The coil 135 moves in the field of a permanent magnet 138, and coil 134 coacts with a fixed coil 137 energized in series with a resistor R13 from the output of a photocell-amplifier unit 145, 146, the latter being responsive to the position of shaft 131 by means of a mirror 141 reflecting light from a source 142 on to the photo-cells. Since the net torque produced by coils 134, 137 represents the product of interface current and photo-cell-amplifier output, and in the equilibrium position of the shaft this torque balances that due to the voltage coil 135, the output to resistor R13 represents the interface resistance. Specification 775,765, [Group XXXV], is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 761,483.
