Abstract

1489472 Electromagnet door-holder; releasable fastenings GENERAL SIGNAL CORP 3 Jan 1975 [25 Jan 1974] 310/75 Headings E2A and E2X An electromagnetic door holder comprises an armature 16 and an electromagnet 18 for holding the armatue, the armature comprising a bifurcated support bracket 30, an armature element 31 for engagement with the electromagnet and having thereon a flange 31 received between the arms 32, 34 of the support bracket means providing resiliently deformable bushings 50 (e.g. of nylon) between the flange 31 and the arms 32, 34 respectively, and received by the arms to define an axis about which the element can turn relative to the bracket 30, a shaft 40 extending through the bushings and through an aperture in the flange, the shaft being mounted for selective movement along the axis, and the armature being so arranged that the frictional resistance presented to turning the element relative to the bracket 30 about the axis is controlled in dependence upon the selected axial position of the shaft. Each of a plurality of doors, urged to a closed position by means 12, has mounted thereon an armature 16 which cooperates with a corresponding electromagnet 18 mounted upon a wall 20 and connected to a power supply 22 under the influence of a fire-detection system 25.
