Abstract
758,457. Waveguides. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and MOORE, R. C. Dec. 21, 1954 [Sept. 21, 1953], No. 26037/53. Class 40 (8). A waveguide comprises a rigid hollow body of ethoxylene resin material the inner surface of which carries an electrically-conducting layer. The guide may be built up from two or more moulded or machined parts, e.g. la, 1b, which are connected along flanges 4 by bolts or by glue. Flanges comprising choke slots may be provided on the end faces of the parts. In order to decrease the coefficient of thermal expansion the material may be loaded with mica powder or asbestos. Alternatively, materials such as glass fibre or cloth impregnated with ethoxylene resin may be used. The resin may be expanded or foamed. The conductive coating may be applied by first depositing a layer of silver by evaporation, sputtering or by chemical means and subsequently increasing the thickness of metal by electrodeposition of copper or silver.
